Andrea Oey, violinist, is a native New Yorker with degrees from the Juilliard School, Oberlin College and Conservatory, and the Mannes College of Music. Before arriving in Singapore, she has been an active orchestral player with performances throughout the U.S., Europe, Asia, and the West Indies, joining the Spoleto Festival Orchestra (Italy), Key West Symphony and Sarasota Opera Orchestra (Florida), Holder's Festival with the Lyric Orchestra (Barbados), MMCK Orchestra (Japan), and the Bangkok Symphony (Thailand). As a recitalist here in Singapore, Andrea has been performing for dignitaries, including the Ambassadors of Japan, Holland, and Belgium.
In addition to performing standard classical repertoire, she enjoys other genres and styles of music, and has played acoustic violin with jazz funk group, Ex Caminos, electric violin on New York's Off-Broadway show, “Heat Lightning”, and solo violin and quartet playing for numerous recordings for commercials and independent films. She has appeared in concert with U2's Bono, Luciano Pavarotti, k.d. lang, Quincy Jones, Patrizio Buanne, and Bombay Dreams and Bollywood composer, A.R. Rahman. Besides performing, Andrea is a dedicated teacher, with positions at the Mandeville Music School, the National University of Singapore, and on occasion coaching the Anglo-Chinese Junior College and the Singapore National Youth Orchestra.
Last year, Andrea explored her interest in the music media industry and was host/presenter of MediaCorp Radio's Symphony 92.4FM, Singapore's classical radio station. In addition to her musical studies at Oberlin, Andrea pursued a degree in architecture and worked as an architect/AutoCAD draftsperson for three years. |
