Violinist Xu Jue Yi has performed regularly in China and Singapore as a soloist and chamber musician. In May 2008, she joined the Singapore Symphony Orchestra as second violinist. In 2006 she won second prize in the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory Concerto Competition. She was appointed concertmaster of the Pacific Music Festival Orchestra in concerts conducted by Riccardo Muti in Tokyo and Sapporo in 2007.
Born in Shanghai, China, Xu started violin lessons when she was six, and at the age of eight became a pupil of Zhang Shixiang. In 1994 she was admitted into the Music Elementary School affiliated to the Shanghai Conservatory of Music (SHCM), and later joined its affiliated Music Middle School, where she was under the tutelage of Qing Zheng and Zheng Shisheng. She was awarded scholarships throughout her studies. From 2004-2008, she was a violin major student under full scholarship at Singapore’s Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, studying under Qian Zhou and graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree of Music (First Class Honours) in violin performance.
Xu has performed with a number of chamber orchestras and symphony orchestras, and attended masterclasses with world-famous performers. In 2002 she performed with the SHCM Youth Symphony Orchestra on a tour of the United States.
