Co-leader
Seah, Lynnette
Lynnette Seah was the acting Leader at the inception of the SSO in January 1979, and is currently its Co-Leader. As a soloist, she has performed with several orchestras in Europe as well as with the SSO. In 1987 Ms Seah performed Josef Suk’s Fantasie with Zurich Symphony Orchestra in the Tonhalle Zurich. The Zurich Zeitung wrote of her "virtuosity and full rich tone". Later that year, she performed the Mozart G major Concerto with the Orebro Chamber Orchestra in Sweden. In 1988 Ms Seah went on to Czechoslovakia to perform the Sibelius Concerto with the Teplice Symphony Orchestra with Finnish conductor Ralf Sjobel. Her playing was described as "bringing tones of immeasurable lyricism carried through in the spirit of soulful expression particularly in the slower passages".

Lynnette began her formal music training on the piano with her mother when she was 5 and started the violin a year later with Goh Soon Tioe and later Alphonso Anthony. She won scholarships including one to the National Music Camp at Interlochen, Michigan USA when she was twelve. She was also awarded the Outstanding Young Musicians Award for being the youngest member of the World Camp in Adelaide, Australia where she was appointed Associate Leader of the Bishop Symphony Orchestra. That same year she represented Singapore in the Southeast Asian Violin Competition, and won a scholarship to study at the Hannover Hochschule for Music in Germany. She has worked with renowned violin teachers including David Mankowitz of Toronto, Prof. Friedrich von Hausegger of Hannover, Prof. Karel Sneberger of Prague, Yfrah Neaman of London and Dorothy DeLay of New York.

Lynnette is also active in the chamber music scene, having performed in chamber and solo recitals in Singapore, Indonesia and Hong Kong, where she performed an all-Beethoven recital. She is also the leader and founder of the Jade String Quartet. In June 1995, she was invited to perform at the Bergen International Music Festival in Norway where she gave a recital. In April 1996 she was invited to represent Singapore in the World Philharmonic Orchestra in Bangkok, Thailand for the King’s 50th Anniversary of his ascension under the baton of Myung Whun Chung.

Lynnette was awarded the Cultural Medallion by President S R Nathan in 2006.
