"The way Hope masters his instrument... qualifies him as a musician on a par with Gidon Kremer"
- Berliner Zeitung

A protege of the late Yehudi Menuhin, Grammy-nominated British violinist Daniel Hope stars in Mendelssohn's ever-popular Violin Concerto in E minor, well-loved for its intensely dramatic opening as well as its charming yet virtuosic third movement. Dating from the height of his modernism in 1916-17, Prokofiev’s Classical Symphony came as an unusual surprise. It was, perhaps, a charming tribute to his favourite composer, Haydn: in his words, “the kind of symphony that Haydn or Mozart might have written if they had lived in the twentieth century”. Sibelius' First Symphony, though greatly influenced by Tchaikovsky, was also characterised by his own melodic and rhythmic style and remains symbolic of Finnish symphonic music.
