Synopsis:
Husband and wife team Gennady Rozhdestvensky and Victoria Postnikova join forces in presenting a Russian spectacular. Just as popular as Rachmaninov's four “official” concertos is his evergreen Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini for piano and orchestra – a series of 24 variations on the last of Paganini’s Caprices for solo violin. Experience winter in Russia with Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 1, nicknamed “Winter Daydreams” by the composer himself, the final movement bringing to mind a winter carnival with sunshine sparkling on the snow. Completing the Russian adventure is Schnittke’s capricious and quirky Suite from music to the play The Dead Souls Register by Russian author Nikolai Gogol.
