Mahler's
Songs of a Wayfarer were the result of a creative surge following a period of depression caused by an unrequited love; all the texts were written by Mahler himself. This concert also features Mahler's orchestration of Schumann's cheery
First Symphony, a work inspired by the poetic notions of spring; each of the work's movements initially carried titles referring to the season's many aspects."
