FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
A sublime harmony: Ibert, Taffanel and Mozart
Wednesday 29 April 2009, SINGAPORE – Enjoy a relaxing Sunday afternoon at the Victoria Concert Hall on May 24 as SSO musicians bring you two breezy and delightful pieces for wind quintet by Ibert and Taffanel as well as Mozart’s masterful
Divertimento in E-flat.
Ibert wrote a fair amount of music for wind instruments, and was particularly fond of unconventional instrument combinations: the Three Short Pieces from 1930 show him in his true sparkling element.
The six movements of
Mozart’s Divertimento in E-flat – described by Einstein as "one of his noblest works" – exude an alluring maturity, alternating between wistfulness, melancholy and drama.
