CORNET
 |
The cornet, a brass valved instrument, is very similar to the trumpet. Its fingering is the same but it has a wider tubing, which is slightly conical. |
The cornet is a very flexible and expressive brass instrument. However, it is more commonly used in brass and military bands, rather than in the orchestra. Its tone quality is a blend of the horn and the trumpet, being less brilliant than that of the trumpet and slightly brighter than that of the horn.
SOUND PRODUCTION
It is a transposing instrument. The cornet commonly used is the cornet in B flat, which produces notes sounding a major 2nd lower than the written notes.
