Ibert wrote a fair amount of music for wind instruments, and was particularly fond of unconventional instrument combinations: the
Three Short Pieces from 1930 show him in his true sparkling element. The six movements of Mozart’s masterful
Divertimento in E-flat – described by Einstein as "one of his noblest works" – exude an alluring maturity, alternating between wistfulness, melancholy and drama.
