Emperor and Pathétique

Fri / 25 Aug 2017 / 7:30PM

Esplanade Concert Hall

Power and Majesty

Two works of deep feeling and grandeur: one the most regal of piano concerti exuding tender beauty and assured optimism; the other a symphony of power and lyricism ending in heartbreak. Bringing fresh insights to these masterpieces are Singaporean conductor Kahchun Wong, winner of the Gustav Mahler Conducting Competition in 2016, with rising star Shai Wosner on piano.

"Both musicians and audience alike were equally captivated by the winner [Wong] and celebrated him with a distinctive demonstration of support, perhaps not unlike that of the then-winner Gustavo Dudamel?" - Robert Jungwirth, Neue Zürcher Zeitung (on conductor Kahchun Wong)
His feel for keyboard colour and voicing is wonderful" - The Washington Post (on pianist Shai Wosner)
