The Singapore Symphony Orchestra continues to bring music to its audiences with the digital concert season, SSOPlayOn! Over the coming fortnight, audiences can enjoy music by Dvořák, Saint-Saëns and Singapore composer Kelly Tang.
On 29 May the interview series Conversations with the Artist continues with a conversation with Japanese jazz pianist Makoto Ozone. The following week (5 June), Jon Fox speaks to two conductors who’ll be familiar to fans of the SSO – Joshua Tan, our Associate Conductor, and Darrell Ang, a regular guest conductor with the orchestra.
The 31 May sees the launch of a new series for youngsters: Musical Soundbites. Conductor Jessica Gethin is your guide on an interactive fun-packed exploration of Saint-Saëns’s much-loved classic, Carnival of the Animals. A new video launches every Sunday at 3pm, beginning with ‘Royal March of the Lion, Hens & Cocks’.
This fortnight also sees the launch of a series of piano recitals filmed at the 2019 Singapore International Piano Festival. On Saturday 30 May at 7.30pm, there’ll be the Digital Premiere of a recital by Louis Schwizgebel with music by Chopin, Schubert, Mussorgsky and more. The following week it’s the turn of Ronan O’Hora, who performs a programme of Beethoven and Brahms. Both films will be available for a limited time – 30 days.
The celebration of Singapore’s composing talent continues on 3 June with an evening dedicated to the music of Kelly Tang, including his Capriccio for Orchestra. Meanwhile, don’t miss the final installment of Concert Classics on our Official Radio Station, Symphony 924. Tune in on 31 May at noon for two hours of music celebrating our home, Singapore.
