The SSOPlayOn! digital season continues with a raft of concerts, announced today, taking place from February to May. Highlights include a performance of Bach’s Double Violin Concerto by young virtuoso Chloe Chua alongside SSO First Violinist Ye Lin.

Cindy Lim, Head of Marketing Communications for SSG said: “With the gradual resumption of live performances, the SSO will be reducing the frequency of its online concerts to once a month. This will allow some of our patrons, who may not be comfortable returning to the concert hall at the moment, to still enjoy concerts by their national orchestra from their home. In addition, due to popular demand, we will be bringing back the $5 early bird price. Standard tickets for our SSOPlayOn! events will now cost $8, down from $10, making our online concerts even more affordable, so that we can attract new audiences in the digital space."

On Friday 26 February at 8pm the orchestra’s ‘Celebrating Bach’ series continues with ‘Miracle of Music (Online)’, comprising two violin concertos by J. S. Bach alongside Telemann’s Don Quixote Suite, conducted by Joshua Tan. This concert was recorded live in front of a small, safe-distanced audience, at the Victoria Concert Hall on 4 December 2020.

The following month, on Friday 19 March, ‘VCHpresents Chamber: Haydn’s Emperor & Tchaikovsky’s Florence (Online)’ pairs Haydn’s ‘Emperor’ String Quartet and Tchaikovsky’s Souvenirs de Florence. This concert was recorded live at the Victoria Concert Hall on 8 October. VCHpresents continues on Friday 16 April with a performance of Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet in A major and Beethoven’s Piano Quartet No. 3 in ‘VCHpresents Chamber: Sparkle and Serenity (Online)’.

On Friday 21 May ‘Celebrating Bach’ continues with ‘A Gift to the Universe (Online)', conducted by Darrell Ang and featuring Singapore’s star young violinist, Chloe Chua, who is joined by SSO First Violinist Ye Lin for J. S. Bach’s Double Violin Concerto. Tickets for all these concerts will be available at the special early-bird price of $5 from 28 January until 10 February. After this period, tickets will start at $8 on a pay-as-you-wish basis. Online concerts are available to watch for two weeks after the premiere.

In addition, the SSO announces the cancellation of all remaining live concerts of the previously-announced 2020/21 season. Newly-curated live concerts will be announced in the coming weeks.
