Supporting Young Musicians – Musically and Emotionally
Music is all about sharing experiences and memories. Over the last 25 years, in no less than 10 musical collaborations with the magnificent Singapore Symphony Orchestra, every such occasion has been celebrated with profound joy.
This orchestra has always been an integral part of my career as a cellist. In 1993, at the tender age of 17, performing the Dvorak Cello Concerto with this great orchestra was one of the most memorable debut experiences of my career.
The vivid memories of working with the musicians in the “old” Victoria Concert Hall and with my parents meeting many of their old colleagues during the rehearsals were truly special! To know that I have had the full support from the orchestra both musically and emotionally was vital for a “rookie”. It was a professional experience that was both exciting and comforting!
Fast-forward 20 years, in 2013, the SSO invites me again for the Dvorak Concerto with Maestro Lan Shui, at the Esplanade Concert Hall. It was an extraordinary feeling of returning “home” both musically and spiritually.
The wonderful Singapore Symphony has been building and shaping the musical and cultural life of Singapore for the past 40 years. Happy 40th birthday my dear SSO! I look forward to experiencing many more magical moments together!
