Creating a global city: what role does music play #

FREE ADMISSION WITH REGISTRATION

The city of Vienna is widely recognised as the global capital for western classical music, a distinction owed in no small part to the reputation of the venerable 175-year-old Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and the world famous Boys Choir whose origins date back to the late Middle Ages. Drawing on the experiences of Vienna, Professor Hellsberg will discuss the role of the arts in shaping the life and image of a city. He will also touch on Salzburg, the birthplace of Amadeus Mozart (arguably the world’s best known composer) and the home of the Salzburg Festival, which has a close collaboration with the Philharmonic.

This event is co-organised by the Singapore Symphony Group and the Embassy of Austria.
