No composer evokes more fun than Astor Piazzolla. Even with his music written as technical exercises is able to get you grooving! Add percussion to it, and you will find yourself dancing like an experienced Tango Bailarin. You would think it doesn’t get any better than that, but with Henry Mancini, who brought you the famous Pink Panther theme and Moon River, it is guaranteed to be a concert buzzing with excitement. After all, what better way to end a Sunday afternoon than by dancing into the evening with Mike Mower’s Sonata Latino, a work which incorporates Salsa, Bossa Nova, Rumba and other Latin American musical styles?

Synopsis

Flutist, educator and composer, Jin Ta has been in the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO) as Principal Flute since 1998. 
In 1991, after completing his studies at the Central Music Conservatory (Beijing) with Professor Zhu Tong De, he entered the University of Michigan on a full-scholarship.
In 1995, he studied with Professor Fenwick Smith at the New England Conservatory of Music and was selected as an Artist Diploma candidate in 1997. During the eight years he spent in the US, Jin Ta won numerous flute competitions including the Silver Prize in the National Flute Talk Competition and NFA Young Artist Competition (1995), First Prize in the James Pappoutsakis Memorial Flute Competition (1996), Israel Haifa International Flute Competition (2001), among many others.
Besides performing with the SSO, Jin Ta is dedicated to teaching. He has taught at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) and LaSalle College of the Arts. He is also a founding faculty member of the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music (National University of Singapore). His students are now working in many professional orchestras in China, Taiwan and Korea. Jin Ta is also a self-taught composer and has published a number of works such as his First Flute Sonata, and Second Sonata, “Mongol”. He frequently gives talks and masterclasses in China, Taiwan, Thailand and South Korea.
During the COVID-19 circuit breaker period, he and his wife <a href="https://www.sso.org.sg/about/singapore-symphony-orchestra/the-orchestra/yu-jing">Yu Jing (SSO Associate Principal Cello)</a> created a flute education WeChat channel “Lumino’s art of flute” (小 鲁仔长笛艺术). This channel focusses on contributing free online flute lessons for both college level students and young flutists, and musical stories for children.

Guennadi Mouzyka was born in Vladikavkaz, Russia. He studied Double-Bass in Moscow with well-known teachers: V.Shulepina, M. Fokin G. Favorsky and Professor E. Kolosov. He started his career as Solo Bassist for the Moscow Region Chamber Orchestra in 1979. 
Upon graduation with Honours from Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatoire in 1982 he worked for renowned Russian orchestras: the USSR Ministry Of Culture State Symphony Orchestra under G. Rozhdestvensky and the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, where he was Sub-Principal Double-Bassist. With these orchestras he performed in many countries in Europe, America and Asia. Guennadi joined the Singapore Symphony Orchestra in 1992.

Guennadi Mouzyka

Mark Suter joined the Singapore Symphony Orchestra in 2007 as Associate Principal Percussionist. He also serves as the Head of Percussion Studies at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Singapore.
Since year 2000, Mark has performed, taught and created new works with Silkroad, the organization founded by Yo-Yo Ma to create music that engages difference. With Silkroad, he has performed in the major musical centers of the United States, Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Suter has appeared on six of the ensemble’s albums including the GRAMMY®Award–winning Sing Me Home, where he also acted as an associate producer.
As a chamber musician Suter has toured with Yo-Yo Ma in support of his Obrigado Brazil recording alongside Cuban Latin Jazz legend Paquito D’Rivera and Brazilian guitarists the Assad Brothers.
Suter has performed with New York City Ballet, Essential Music, Persian kemancheh virtuoso Kayhan Kalhor and the genre-defying string quartet Brooklyn Rider among others. 
Summer Festival engagements include Spoleto USA/Italy, Tanglewood, Smithsonian Folklife and Lincoln Center. Suter has recorded for Sony BMG, Harmonia Mundi, Koch International, Mode, In a Circle Records, BIS and Dorian labels.
Suter received a Bachelor’s degree in Percussion Performance from the University of Michigan as a Charlie Owen Scholarship recipient studying under Michael Udow, former Principal Percussionist of the Santa Fe Opera and Salvatore Rabbio, former Principal Timpanist of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. He received a Master’s of Music in Percussion Performance from California State University, Northridge studying under Brian Kilgore and the late Karen Ervin Pershing.
