This fascinating tour of string music from four corners of the world is a special musical itinerary by American maestro Carlos Kalmar. Take a trip to Panama with the pioneering African-American composer William Grant Still’s Dances of Panama, and a nostalgic English journey with Frank Bridge. Stay in step with a lyrical Scandinavian jaunt via young Nielsen’s elegaic Op. 1 and an inventive Entr’acte for strings by the Pulitzer-prize-winning Caroline Shaw, which she refers to as looking at the “other side of Alice’s looking glass, in a kind of absurd, subtle, technicolor transition.”
