SINGAPORE SYMPHONY GROUP APPOINTS TWO NEW BOARD MEMBERS
The Singapore Symphony Group (SSG), which manages Singapore’s flagship orchestra, has appointed two new members to its board: Mr Warren Fernandez, Editor-in-Chief, SPH English/Malay/Tamil Media; and Mr Sanjiv Misra, Chairman, Asia Pacific Advisory Board, Apollo Global Management LLC.
In addition to the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, the Group includes the Singapore National Youth Orchestra and three choruses, namely, the Singapore Symphony Chorus, Singapore Symphony Children’s Choir and Singapore Symphony Youth Choir. SSG also runs the Singapore representative office of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM).
Says Mr Goh Yew Lin, Chairman of the Singapore Symphony Group Board:
“The SSG is an exciting and dynamic organisation with a strong sense of purpose. I’m delighted to welcome Warren and Sanjiv on board and look forward to working with them to help the SSO and our affiliated groups fulfil our mission and reach out to wider audiences. Both are fans of symphonic and classical music, and they bring to the Board their extensive and diverse expertise in corporate strategy, financial management and the media.
“We also express our deep gratitude to three board members who have recently stepped down — Mr Kwee Liong Seen, Prof. Lim Seh Chun, and Ms Tan Choo Leng. They’ve seen us through an exciting period of change, when we’ve included into our fold the national youth orchestra and new choral groups. Over the years, we’ve benefited greatly from their wise counsel and personal commitment in helping us to overcome challenges and meet our aspirations.”
The mission of the SSO and its affiliated performing groups is to spread the love for music, nurture talent and enrich our diverse communities. In addition to the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO), SSG also manages the Singapore National Youth Orchestra and three choruses — the Singapore Symphony Chorus, Singapore Symphony Children’s Choir and Singapore Symphony Youth Choir. Since 1985 SSG has been running the Singapore representative office of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM).
