The Singapore Symphony Orchestra calls for applications from outstanding young musicians for the SSO President's Young Performers Concert 2018. Auditions will be held for shortlisted Singaporean conductors and musicians performing on Western classical instruments such as strings, woodwind, brass and percussion.

Successful candidates will perform as soloist in a concerto with the national orchestra at the Victoria Concert Hall in September 2018. The event will be graced by the President of the Republic of Singapore, Her Excellency Halimah Yacob.

Applicants should be Singapore citizens. Instrumentalists should be no more than 25 years of age, and conductors, no more than 35 years of age, as of 1 July 2018. They are invited to send in, by 5 January 2018, their biography including their date of birth, musical background and contact information as well as a non-returnable recording of their most recent performance of one movement of a concerto on DVD or thumb drive, with work and performer’s name clearly indicated, to the following address:

Shortlisted applicants will be notified by 26 January 2018 to perform a complete concerto in a live audition taking place in mid-February 2018. Applicants should arrange for their own pianists to play the orchestral part during the live audition.

Past performers have included conductors Darrell Ang and Joshua Tan, violist Lim Chun, violinists Chan Yoong-Han, Grace Lee, Loh Jun Hong, Yang Shuxiang and Gabriel Ng, saxophonist Samuel Phua as well as pianists Azariah Tan, Li Churen, Abigail Sin, Lim Yan, Jonathan Chua and Gavin Jared Bala.
