Audition Process

Prepare a song of your choice either a cappella or accompanied. Any western classical choral/vocal work you’re familiar with would be good. You may expect a sight-singing portion which will test upon music reading and aural skills. If piano accompaniment is required with your song, do bring along 2 copies of the score with the relevant piano parts, for yourself and the Choral Director. There will be no need to arrange for your own accompanist.

Rehearsals and Performances

Every member of the Singapore Symphony Chorus is typically expected to participate in all concerts1 of each season (unless the SSC requires a reduced number of singers for a performance). Chorus members will also be required to remain standing throughout performances, which could last up to 60 minutes or more.

The Choral season follows the Singapore Symphony Orchestra’s season, and runs between July to June. Members may not opt in and out of performances based on their repertoire preferences, and should attend all rehearsals and performances scheduled, especially if deemed compulsory.

Following the relaxation of measures, the SSC has returned fully to live rehearsals. Rehearsals include mass singing, ensemble singing, sectionals and score-study sessions.

1A minimum performing attendance of 75% is typically required to retain SSC membership.
