Synopsis
Presented by the Singapore National Youth Orchestra
Guangzhou Symphony Youth Orchestra’s concert opens with two evocative pieces from Chinese composers: The Secret of Wind and Birds, Tan Dun's tone poem where the audience's mobile phones joins the orchestra in birdsong, and Lin Zhao’s Duo for Sheng, Cello and Orchestra, where acclaimed cellist Wang Jian and Sheng player Jia Lei tell a Chinese legend of a monk in search of Buddhist wisdom. From the East, they journey to the West with Vaughan Williams' sublime Serenade to Music in praise of music's beauty and concluding with the sunlit canopy and nightingale-touched dusk of Respighi's colourful Pines of Rome.
