Synopsis

Sublime Mozart and glorious Mendelssohn – this concert led by Austrian conductor Thomas Rösner takes you from noble remembrance to triumphant celebration. Popular South Korean pianist Yeol Eum Son joins the SSO to play Mozart’s 23rd Piano Concerto, its elegant poise and joyous sunlight an uplifting prelude to Mendelssohn’s Reformation Symphony. Written in 1830 in honour of the 300th anniversary of the Augsburg Confession, this is a symphonic interpretation of Martin Luther’s rousing Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott (“A Mighty Fortress Is Our God”) – the battle hymn of the Reformation.
