Chan Wei Shing

Section Cello

Chan Wei Shing was born into a musical family and started playing the piano at the age of eight and cello at the age of ten. In 1985 he won First Prize in the cello open and chamber music categories of the National Music Competition.

In 1988 he began studying with Professor Angelika May at the University of Music in Vienna and later with Professor Rudolf Leopold in Graz, Austria. In 1996 he was awarded a Masters in Cello Performance.

Besides having a passion for chamber music, Wei Shing also enjoys diving and eating with friends. The most common phrase you hear from him after a concert is 'Are we suppering?'.
