Christoph Wichert

The Austrian bassoonist joined the Singapore Symphony Orchestra in 2008. He is a graduate of the Conservatory Vienna where he studied performance with Michael Werba (Principal Bassoon, Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra) and education. Various masterclasses complemented his education.

During his university years Christoph Wichert was able to gain experience in various ensembles of the Viennese concert life such as with the Wiener Kammerorchester. He is also a founding member of the Feuerhaus Kammerorchester. As a substitute player at the State Opera of Vienna and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, he was able to work, tour and record under conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Seiji Ozawa, Mariss Jansons, Riccardo Muti and Nikolaus Harnoncourt. He has performed as a soloist in various recitals and with orchestras playing concertos by Mozart, Weber, Pauer and Hartl.

Before moving to Singapore, Christoph Wichert was working as solo bassoonist with the Orchester der Vereinigten Bühnen in Wien for their productions and at the music school of Tulln teaching bassoon, music theory and guiding the symphonic wind band. In Tulln, he was able to successfully prepare some of his students for studies at music universities and started a composition workshop together with his colleague Cordula Bösze.

Being an active chamber musician with Ensemble QuinTonic, a devoted teacher and through his intense engagement in contemporary music, Christoph Wichert is always trying to widen his musical horizon.
