Fixed Chair Violin

Kwok Hai-Won began violin lessons with her father at the age of five in Canton China. After her family immigrated to New Zealand in 1984, she went to Melbourne, Australia at the age of fourteen to study with Russian violinist Nelli Shkonikova. After winning first prize in the Hephzibah Menuhin Awards (Melbourne) and runner-up in the New Zealand Young Musicians Competition in 1987, Hai-Won furthered her studies at the Indiana University of Bloomington and later Boston University. Hai-Won has worked with orchestras in Australia and Germany before she joined the SSO in 2001.
