Mario Choo

Mario Choo joined the Singapore Symphony Orchestra as a Percussionist in 2015. He graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Music with a Master of Music (Percussion) under the tutelage of Prof. Gert Mortensen, and his teachers include Christian Schiøler, Johan Bridger and Håkon Kartveit. Prior to that he studied with Jonathan Fox at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in Singapore. He has also played as a guest musician with numerous orchestras in Asia.

In a first-ever partnership with the Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic in Germany and the SSO, Mario worked extensively with Timpanist Rainer Seegers. He performed with the members of Berlin Philharmonic in a late night concert series with Sir Simon Rattle, which is on the digital concert hall.

Mario has attended festivals such as Aspen Summer Festival, where he performed under the baton of conductors James Levine, David Zinman and Leonard Slatkin. In Denmark, his arrangements were featured in Globo Beats by Gert Mortensen, a multi-cultural programme showcasing different types of percussion from all over the world. He was also a member of Percurama.
