Qing Li

Qing Li is Principal Violinist of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and Professor of Violin at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University. She is a frequent soloist with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and has appeared as soloist with orchestras throughout the United States and Asia.

A Piatigorsky Foundation Artist, Qing Li appears regularly as a recitalist, chamber musician, and guest concertmaster, having led performances with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Iceland Symphony Orchestra, and Singapore Symphony Orchestra. She is also a member of the three-time Emmy Award–winning All-Star Orchestra on PBS. Her performances and recordings have been featured internationally through broadcast and digital media outlets, including Voice of America.

In 2024, Qing Li served as principal soloist and curator of the Richmond Symphony’s StradFest Gala, featuring Itzhak Perlman and rising soloists from across North America. Under the direction of Music Director Valentina Peleggi, the gala showcased nine instruments by Antonio Stradivari. In the 2026–27 season, she joins the Singapore Symphony Orchestra as Guest Principal Second Violin.

A celebrated teacher and mentor, Qing Li serves on the faculty of the Beijing International Music Festival Academy and the National Orchestral Institute + Festival under the direction of Marin Alsop. Since the inaugural season of the National Youth Orchestra of China at Carnegie Hall in 2017, she has served as violin faculty and curator.

Born in Beijing, China, Qing Li studied at the Central Conservatory of Music and the Peabody Conservatory, where she was a student of Berl Senofsky. She later studied with Joseph Gingold.

Qing Li performs on a 1736 Nicolo Gagliano violin, its voice shaped by an exquisite 1845 bow by Dominique Peccatte.
