Dai Dai Wu (Wu Dai Dai)

A promising young cellist, Wu Dai Dai was born in China in 1989. Raised in a musical family she started the cello from the age of seven with her mother. In 2001, Daidai was enrolled into the Middle School of Xi’an Conservatory of Music. In 2007, she was enrolled into the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore, to study in the Cello Studio of Li-Wei Qin with the full scholarship.

As a soloist, Dai Dai has given many performances in China, north America and Australia and Europe. She has worked with orchestras such as Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra; Xi’an Conservatory of Music Symphony Orchestra; Adelaide Chamber Orchestra and Yong Siew Toh Conservatory Orchestra.

Dai Dai has won many prizes include the 2nd prize at the 21st Gisbonre International Music Competition in New Zealand; the 1st prize at the Conservatory Concerto Competition in Singapore and awarded the Royal Over-Seas League Singapore Music Scholarship in 2009. The 6th prize at the China National Youth Cello Competition in 2004. In 2003, she won the Special prize at the National Youth Arts Competition in China.

As a chamber music player, Dai Dai had actively participated in many performance, she has worked with many musicians, including Alasdair Beatson, Qian Zhou, Erich Huetter, Karal Bredenhorst, James Barralet, …etc. Dai Dai has played in many masterclasses such as Mischa Maisky, Wang Jian, Ralph Kirshbaum, Alexander Ivashkin, David Takeno, Gabor Takacs-Nagy and many others.

In 2002, Dai Dai took part in the 6th Morningside Music Bridge in Canada. In 2008, she was invited to join in the 1st Adelaide International Cello Festival in Australia. Also the Styrian Chambermusic Festival in Austria and Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland in 2010.
