Chiang Yung-Yuan

Born in Taiwan, Chiang Yung-Yuan began her clarinet studies at the age of nine with Hsiao Ming-Chia and graduated from the Music Talent Class of Kaohsiung Senior High School. A laureate of numerous competitions in Taiwan, she has also received international recognition. In 2022, she was awarded Third Prize and the Czech Music Fund Foundation Prize for Best Performance of the Commissioned Work at the 73rd Prague Spring International Music Competition. She is also a recipient of the Yamaha Music Europe Foundation Scholarship (2021/2022), as well as the CHIMEI Art Award (2021, 2023).

Yung-Yuan obtained her Bachelor’s degree from the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music in Singapore, where she studied under Ma Yue, and later completed her Master’s degree at the Sibelius Academy in Finland with Harri Mäki and Christoffer Sundqvist. During her studies, she was selected to perform Aaron Copland’s Clarinet Concerto with the Sibelius Academy Sinfonietta under the baton of Sakari Oramo.

A versatile clarinetist, Yung-Yuan performs across the clarinet family, including E-flat and bass clarinet, and has appeared as a guest musician with leading orchestras in the Nordic region. Her orchestral appearances include the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Finnish National Opera Orchestra, and Tapiola Sinfonietta. She has held the position of Sub-Principal and E-flat Clarinet with Oulu Sinfonia in Finland since 2025.
