Zhao Yu Er

Zhao Yu Er began playing the cello at the age of eight. Within three years, Yu Er was enrolled at the Central Conservatory in Beijing.

After completing her Bachelor’s degree in 1984, she joined the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra before heading to America on a full scholarship to continue her studies at Northern Illinois University. She studied with Marc Johnson and was awarded a Master’s Degree in 1987.

She returned to Asia soon afterwards and joined the Singapore Symphony Orchestra in 1988. Outside music, Yu Er enjoys travelling and is a keen watch collector.
