Students will learn about the importance of phrasing in music, and receive some tips on how to be a better musician

Designed with school band members in mind, this engaging concert by the Singapore Symphony Orchestra will feature the two set pieces commissioned for the 2025 Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation, a choice piece selected by our audience, as well as a selection of band music of different styles. Students will learn about the importance of phrasing in music, and receive some tips on how to be a better musician from our musicians and conductor, Leonard Tan.

For schools only. All MOE schools are able to use the Tote Board Arts Grant to subsidise up to 50% of the programme.

A) Programme

This concert is recommended for students of their school’s symphonic/wind/concert bands.

Yes, all band members are welcome.

A programme of wind band music will be performed, including the two set pieces (for Secondary and JC/CI level) commissioned for the Singapore Youth Festival 2023, as well as a piece selected by the audience prior to the concert. The conductor Leonard Tan will also speak about music techniques, and provide tips on how to be a better musician.

The concert is about an hour-long with no intermission.

Non-flash photography is allowed during bows and applause, but no photography is allowed when artistes are performing. Unauthorised video and audio recordings are strictly not allowed.

No, the concert will only take place on 7 March 2023, 3pm at the Esplanade Concert Hall.

B) Ticketing

For teachers, do email ticketing@sso.org.sg with your name, your school and number of tickets required. Our Customer Experience Team will acknowledge and reply with a booking form. Once the booking form is completed, we will proceed to raise payment via IFAAS, and will send over the tickets when payment has been finalised.

Tickets are currently available for booking.

No, tickets will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.

There is no minimum quantity.

Requests for additional tickets is subjected to ticket availability at that point in time.

This concert is only open for school bookings at the moment. Do tell your teacher about this concert!

No, each student or teacher requires a ticket for admission.
