The King of Instruments takes centre stage with new compositions by Singaporean composers Chok Kerong and young contemporaries Chen Zhangyi and Phoon Yu. Disquiet, Chok’s work specially commissioned for the Klais Pipe Organ, will feature organist Margaret Chen with a string ensemble conducted by Ang Shao-wen. Composer-organist Phoon Yu will present an original piece that brings together the thrilling combination of organ and trumpet, before completing the afternoon with traditional flair, Bach's Prelude and Fugue in C major.

Prizewinner of the International Trumpet Guild (ITG) Solo Competition in 2013, Lau Wen Rong completed his Master’s Degree with Raymond Mase at The Juilliard School under the Frieda and Harry Aronson Scholarship.
Wen Rong received his Bachelor of Music Degree from the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music of the National University of Singapore, where he was awarded a full merit scholarship. His competition successes include 2nd place at the Pan-Asian soloist competition at Brass Explosion 2012, 2nd place in the prestigious Norman Cooper Chamber Music Competition held in Aberdeen (Brass Polish), and 1st place at the Singapore International Band Festival (Orchestra Collective).
Wen Rong has appeared with the Metropolitan Festival Orchestra, Singapore Lyric Opera Orchestra, Juilliard Orchestra and the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory Orchestra. He has also participated in music festivals such as the Pacific Music Festival (PMF) in Japan and was selected as a Fellow at the Aspen Music Festival in 2015. As an active chamber musician, he has performed with award-winning brass ensemble, Brass Polish (Singapore) and various other brass quintets in Singapore, taking part in outreach activities and bringing the joy of music to the public.
Wen Rong is a recipient of the 2015 RI-Darrell Ang Young Musicians’ Foundation Scholarship, Trailblazer Foundation Study Grant and National Arts Council Capability Development Grant. Wen Rong has studied with Jon Dante, Mark Gould, Joe Burgstaller, William Theis and Tay Jiun Ngiap. Wen Rong is currently on the faculty at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of music and he is a Yamaha Artist.

Wen Rong Lau (Lau Wen Rong)

Chan Yoong-Han is currently the Fixed Chair first violinist in the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. A graduate of Rice University and the University of Massachussetts in Amherst, his principal teachers include Chan Yong Shing, Beryl Kimber, Sergiu Luca, Charles Treger, David Cerone, Kurt Sassmannshaus and Dorothy Delay. 
Yoong-Han has performed solo with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Szeged Symphony of Hungary, Singapore Chinese Orchestra, Singapore Youth Orchestra, Orchestra of the Music Makers, SAF Chinese Orchestra and Braddell Heights Symphony in concertos by Dvořák, Lalo, Berg, John Williams, Mozart, Martinů, Lutosławski, Wieniawski and Sibelius, appearing with conductors including Lan Shui, Lim Yau, Erwin Acel, Matthias Bamert, Anthony Inglis, Han Zhong Jie, Darrell Ang and Joshua Tan. He was invited to perform as soloist in the 2003 SSO President’s Young Performers Concert as well as the 1999 President’s Charity Concert. 
As concertmaster he has led the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, the Singapore Festival Orchestra (SFO), The Metropolitan Festival Orchestra (MFO), Orchestra of the Music-Makers (OMM) and The Philharmonic Orchestra (TPO). As part of Singapore’s Golden Jubilee celebrations in 2015, Yoong-Han was concertmaster of the MFO for the Sing50 concert in the National Stadium, as well as concertmaster of the OMM in its performance of Mahler’s Eighth Symphony and Singapore’s premiere of Wagner’s Die Walküre in 2020.
Yoong-Han has participated and performed in the Aspen Music Festival, Singapore Arts Festival, Adelaide Bach Festival, The Singapore Encore (Brussels), Cascade Head Music Festival and SSO Chamber Series amongst others. As a chamber musician he has collaborated and performed with Christian Blackshaw, Cho-Liang Lin, William Bennett, Claude Delangle, Dennis Lee, Chiao-Ying Chang, T’ang Quartet, Borodin Quartet, the Choir of King’s College (Cambridge), the Singapore Dance Theatre, Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble. Yoong-Han is also a violist in the Take5 Piano Quintet Series since 2007. 
In Singapore Yoong-Han is the recipient of the 2000 Shell-NAC Arts Scholarship and the 2004 NAC Young Artist Award. He is also a member of the Board of re:SOUND Collective. Yoong-Han has taught in the University of Massachusetts and Amherst College, and has been teaching in the School of the Arts Singapore since 2008. Besides making music, Yoong-Han enjoys sharing life with his wife and two children.

Yoong-Han Chan (Chan Yoong-Han)

A native of Kaohsiung, Taiwan, violinist Cindy Lee started her piano lessons when she was four and had her first public performance at seven. She started violin studies at eight under a special artistic programme founded by local government. While she was a student in Taiwan, Cindy has performed Mozart Piano Concerto No. 21 as a soloist with her school orchestra, as well as the Barber Violin Concerto with the Kaohsiung City Symphony Orchestra.
A graduate of the National Taiwan Normal University and the Eastman School of Music, her principal teachers included Yung-Shin Fang, Zen-Sheng Chen, Shu-Te Lee, Chia-Hong Liao, Oleh Krysa and David Brickman.
As an orchestra musician, Cindy has performed as part of the Asian Youth Orchestra, Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, Spoleto Festival (Italy), Civic Orchestra of Chicago, Kaohsiung City Symphony Orchestra and Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra.
Cindy Lee has been a member of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra since 2004.

Christina Zhou

Karen Tan has been a member of the SSO since 1987. A graduate of the Royal College of Music in London under a SSO-PSA scholarship, her teachers include Hugh Bean and Jack Steadman. She has represented the SSO on several occasions, the first being in 1986 at the World Philharmonic in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Tan has also performed with the Kyushu Symphony and the Malaysia Philharmonic Orchestra.

Margit Saur is a graduate from the University of the Arts in Berlin (UdK) where she studied with Koji Toyoda and Ilan Gronich. She further studied under the guidance of Yair Kless and Irina Svetlova at the Rubin Music Academy of Tel Aviv. Saur performed in master and chamber music classes with Stefan Picard, Antje Weithaas, Michael Sanderling, Sylvia Rosenberg and The Cleveland Quartet.
Prior to her engagement with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra in 2004, she worked in various orchestras such as Bach-Collegium Stuttgart, Israel Philharmonic, Netherlands Philharmonic, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin (DSO), Vienna Radio Symphony, Netherlands Radio Philharmonic, Ensemble Oriol Berlin and the Baroque Orchestra (Berlin).

Margit Saur

Ye Lin started learning the violin at the age of five. She attended primary and middle schools attached to the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, where she studied with renowned violinists Professor Shi-Xiang Zhang and Fang Lei. Ye Lin made her solo debut with the Shanghai Opera Symphony Orchestra when she was 12.
Ye Lin was a prize winner in the 1998 China National Violin Competition, and in the 9th International Wieniawski Competition for Young Violinists in Lublin, Poland in 2003. A National Arts Council-Conservatory music scholar, Ye Lin graduated from the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore, where she studied violin performance with Professor Qian Zhou. At the conservatory, she became the first winner of the inaugural Yong Siew Toh Conservatory Concerto Competition in 2004. The following year, she won First Prize in the Violin Open Category of the Singapore National Piano and Violin Competition. In 2006, she was selected to study at the Peabody Institute at John Hopkins University as an exchange student where she studied with Victor Danchenko.
After joining the SSO in 2008, Ye Lin continues to be an active chamber musician. She performs frequently with her string quartet and piano trio at the Esplanade Recital Studio and the Victoria Concert Hall. Ye Lin has collaborated in chamber performances with pianist Albert Tiu, the Stradivari Quartet, and violinists Thomas Zehetmair, Peter Hanson, Alina Ibragimova, and others. Since 2003 she has been the acting concertmaster of the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory Orchestra.

Lin Ye (Ye Lin)

Born in Taiwan, Janice Tsai began piano lessons at age five and violin lessons at age nine. At the age of sixteen she was accepted at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music with violin professor Peter Zhang Shi Xiang, and subsequently won scholarships for the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts on both violin and viola studying with Barry Wilde and Jeremy Williams, respectively. Janice was awarded another scholarship to study at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music – University of Sydney, where she was awarded a Masters of Music degree under the guidance of viola pedagogue Winifred Durie.
Throughout her study and beyond, Janice has had the opportunity to work with and participate in masterclasses with some renowned musicians: Ruggiero Ricci, Cho-Liang Lin, Nigel Kennedy, William Percell, Sylvia Rosenberg, Malcolm Bilson, James Dunham, Yo-Yo Ma, Andrew Marriner and Lynn Harrell. Her love for travelling and making music has taken Janice to music festivals across the United Kingdom, Spain, Austria, France, Australia, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Malaysia.
Janice has performed across Europe, Australia and Asia, with the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, Hong Kong Academy Symphony Orchestra, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra and the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. In addition, she lectures in Viola at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and regularly collaborates with re: mix Singapore, the Singapore Lyric Opera and has held violin and viola recitals in Shanghai, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Australia.

Marietta Ku was born in Singapore into a musical family. With a singer-pianist mother and four aunts who were piano teachers, the piano was naturally her first childhood toy, before she decided to switch to the violin at the age of nine.
She subsequently studied at the Royal Academy of Music, London, under an SSO-PSC scholarship. A student of violist Roger Tapping, violinist Howard Davis and pianists Aaron Shorr and Antonietta Notariello, she graduated with an MMus, the Diploma of Advanced Studies, and the LRAM for violin, viola and piano.
In the UK, Marietta has worked with the Amadeus, Alberni and Chilingirian Quartets, and has been appointed principal violist at the Edinburgh Music Festival, the Reigate Music Festival and the Lake District Summer Music Festival. She is also the first Singaporean prize-winner at the Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition.
Marietta currently holds the dual post of violinist-cum-violist with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. Co-founder of the chamber group SPITZE, she is an active recitalist and chamber musician. In her free time, she enjoys mountain-climbing and arranging music for string orchestra.

Marietta Ku

Born in Beijing, Wang Yan attended the primary school affiliated with the Central Conservatory of Music (Beijing) at age 10. She went on to attend the affiliated middle and high schools before graduating in 1981 and being admitted to the Conservatory itself.
She graduated from the Central Conservatory of Music with honours in 1985. In the same year, she was named Principal Cello of the China Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra. She joined the Singapore Symphony Orchestra in 1994. 
Alongside her performances with SSO, Wang Yan was also a member of the Jade Quartet and Feng Trio for about 20 years, with whom she performed at many important State occasions. 
She has also worked as a part-time radio DJ on Singapore’s UFM 100.3, hosting a programme of classical music and interviews with musicians. 
Highlights of her career with the SSO include being one of a select group of SSO musicians to take part in an exchange programme with the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra in 2013, and performing with the world-famous Borodin Quartet in October 2018. 
The Straits Times has said she displays “playing of exceptional beauty and a tone to die for.”
