Rachmaninoff Symphonic Dances, Op. 45
Duration: 2 hrs (with 20-min intermission)
Ibert’s strikingly luminous portrait of the Mediterranean seas, crowds and rhythms, plus Rachmaninoff’s colourful and characterful Symphonic Dances frame the Asian premiere of the Drei Kontinente Cello Concerto. This collaborative work by composers Nico Muhly (USA), Sven Helbig (Germany) and Zhou Long (China), co-commissioned by the SSO, will be championed by its dedicatee, the distinguished cellist Jan Vogler.
“Vogler’s intense and febrile sound is restrained by classical discipline and enriched by a searching musical intelligence.”
