COVID-19: SSO Concert Cancellations
Today the Singapore Symphony Orchestra announces the cancellation of all remaining live concerts in the 19/20 season.
The cancelled concerts are:
The Spirit of Serenity | 28 March, 7.30pm | Victoria Concert Hall
SSO Pops: To Broadway, with Love | 3 April, 7.30pm | Esplanade Concert Hall
Cello Escapades 23 April, 7.30pm | Esplanade Concert Hall
Nadia Sirota - Nico Muhly Viola Concerto | 1 May, 7.30pm | Esplanade Concert Hall
Penderecki Conducts Penderecki | 8 May, 7.30pm | Esplanade Concert Hall
SSO Mother's Day Concert | 10 May, 6pm | Singapore Botanic Gardens
SSO Gala: Seong-Jin Cho | 20 & 21 May, 7.30pm | Victoria Concert Hall
SSO Babies' Proms | 23 & 24 May, 2pm & 4pm | Victoria Concert Hall
All corresponding SSO pre-concert talks will also be cancelled.
The cancellations are due to guest artists being unable to arrive in Singapore because of travel restrictions, as well as the Ministry of Health’s 24 March 2020 advisory to cancel all concerts until 30 April. For the SSO Mother's Day outdoor concert, we have concerns about the ability to maintain safe distancing in the venue.
The Spirit of Serenity will now be streamed online. More details will be provided on our website.
Chng Hak-Peng, CEO of Singapore Symphony Group, said: “The Singapore Symphony Orchestra has been committed to lifting the spirits of Singapore with live orchestral concerts since the COVID-19 situation began unfolding here in January. We thank the public who have attended our concerts during this time.
"The SSO is continuing efforts to explore bringing our music to Singapore via an online platform, and we look forward to resuming live concerts in the future when it is again safe to do so. We look forward to announcing our online series in the coming weeks.”
The SSO is therefore refunding all affected ticket holders.
Refunds will be administered as follows: for payment via credit card, ticket holders will receive an automatic refund issued by SISTIC within one to two months’ credit card billing cycle. For payment via cash/NETS, SISTIC will be in touch with ticket holders on the various ways to obtain the refund.
SSO Friends Season Pass holders who are affected by concert cancellations will be refunded in credits. We are reviewing the situation and will be in touch with all our Friends Season Pass holders via email, over the coming days.
The COVID-19 situation is changing rapidly and we are keeping SSO Friends Season Pass holders and ticket holders up-to-date via email. We are also posting regular updates on our website and Facebook page.
