Kerson Leong Plays Schumann

Just 22 and already taking the music world by storm, Canadian violinist Kerson Leong’s fast-rising career has seen him play in the world’s leading venues, from Carnegie to Wigmore. He makes his Singapore debut with Schumann’s Violin Concerto – written in 1853 and subsequently lost for over 80 years, whose recovery was shrouded in ghostly mysteries and intrigue.

Conducted by renowned Finnish conductor Hannu Lintu, recently appointed Chief Conductor of the Finnish National Opera and Ballet, the programme also includes symphonies by Haydn and Schubert, perfectly suited for the intimate acoustics of the Victoria Concert Hall.

Ever since winning Junior First Prize at the Menuhin Competition 2010, Kerson Leong has astonished and won over fellow musicians and audiences with his rare and unique mastery of his instrument, a natural command over the subtlest of emotions, and the colossal scope of his live performances. Having been called “Canada’s next great violinist” (Ludwig van Toronto), he has distinguished himself as one of the most brilliant musicians of his generation.

Kerson has played in some of the most prestigious concert venues around the world from Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium and the Auditorium du Louvre to Wigmore Hall and the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing. Recent highlights include his tenure as Artist-in-Residence with the Orchestre Métropolitain de Montreal under Yannick Nezet-Seguin for the 2018/2019 season. Already a sought-after soloist, he has performed with such ensembles as the Royal, Oslo, Royal Liège, and Kansai Philharmonic Orchestras, Vienna Chamber Orchestra, the Stavanger, Wuppertal, Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Quebec, and Stockton Symphony Orchestras, the Orchestre National de Lorraine, and the Orchestra Gulbenkian.
