The Singapore National Youth Orchestra (SNYO) has announced the new appointment of Seow Yibin as Associate Conductor from January 2022. Yibin will succeed Lin Juan, who has held the position since 2016.

No stranger to working with youth, Yibin will lead the Singapore National Youth Sinfonia (SNYS) and guide the young musicians in their musical development.

“Joining the SNYO as an Associate Conductor feels like a homecoming. As a former member and later a wind tutor, some of my fondest musical memories have been associated with the Youth Orchestra. I am excited to take up this new role and look forward to continue developing our members’ ensemble and performing skills,” said Yibin.

A Masters graduate of Orchestral Conducting from the prestigious Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM), Yibin is an Adjunct Teacher and Ensemble Coach of the Faculty of Music with the School of the Arts. He has been invited as guest conductor by orchestras and ensembles such as Manchester Camerata, North Cheshire Wind Orchestra, and Stadtmusik Basel and participated in multiple music festivals with RNCM. In Singapore, Yibin is the Associate Conductor of the Orchestra of Music Makers, and conducts regularly with symphonic bands of Raffles Girls’ School and National Junior College. As an active contributor to the local music scene, he sits on the artistic and executive committees of the re:Sound Collective and Wind Band Association of Singapore respectively.

Chng Hak-Peng, Chief Executive Officer of the Singapore Symphony Group said, “We are thrilled to welcome Yibin as Associate Conductor for the SNYO. His years of experience as an established conductor and strong bond with youth musicians will prove to be a valuable asset to the team. At the same time, we would like to thank Lin Juan for his tireless contributions since 2016, especially in seeing us through the challenging years of the pandemic. He has inspired the young musicians of SNYS to new heights.”

Under the guidance of Yibin, the SNYS will continue to develop orchestral musicianship skills of members through rehearsals, performing opportunities and enrichment programmes. In addition, he will present the SNYO’s Concert in Schools and various SNYO engagement projects in schools under the Ministry of Education.
