RISING STAR VIOLINIST ALINA IBRAGIMOVA RETURNS WITH TWO CONCERTS ON MAR 30 AND APR 1
Alina Ibragimova is one of the hottest names in classical music today, and she returns with two concerts on March 30 and April 1.
The rising star plays Brahms’ Violin Concerto in D on March 30 with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra at the Esplanade Concert Hall – a lush painting of noble lyricism exquisitely written for the instrument. Berg’s thoroughly modern “Drei Orchesterstücke” provides startling contrast, as does Bartók’s richly scored Concerto for Orchestra, promising a showcase of every musician on stage.
On April 1, Ibragimova joins SSO musicians at the Victoria Concert Hall in an all-Russian programme across three Russian greats in their characteristic musical modes. The sweet yearnings of Tchaikovsky’s lyricism give way to the impish energy of Prokofiev and finally to the dark astringency and twilit enigma of Shostakovich’s Third String Quartet, which he considered one of his best.
Performing music from baroque to new commissions on both modern and period instruments, Alina Ibragimova has established a reputation as one of the most accomplished and intriguing violinists of her generation. This was illustrated in her prominent presence at the 2015 BBC Proms, which included a symphonic concerto, a performance with a baroque ensemble and two late-night Royal Albert Hall recitals featuring the complete Bach partitas and sonatas, for which The Guardian commented “The immediacy and honesty of Ibragimova’s playing has the curious ability to collapse any sense of distance between performer and listener”.
