Singapore, 2 September 2022 — The Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO) will be conducting open auditions for its 2023 President’s Young Performers Concert.

The annual concert shines a spotlight on young talented musicians in Singapore — giving them the rare chance to perform with the SSO at the Victoria Concert Hall. Successful candidates will perform as soloists in a concerto or equivalent with the SSO in 2023 (date to be announced).

Auditions will be held for shortlisted Singaporean instrumentalists performing concertos written for their instrument and Singaporean vocalists performing vocal works with the orchestra.

Past performers have included violist Lim Chun, violinists Chan Yoong-Han, Grace Lee, Loh Jun Hong, Yang Shuxiang and Gabriel Ng, saxophonist Samuel Phua as well as pianists Azariah Tan, Li Churen, Abigail Sin, Lim Yan, Jonathan Chua and Gavin Jared Bala.

Eligibility:
Applicants should be Singapore citizens. Applicants should be no more than 25 years of age, as of 1 July 2023.

Application Deadline:
Applicants are invited to submit their online application by 31 December 2022, with the following items:

  1. Biography including their date of birth, musical background and contact information
  2. A high-quality video featuring a recent performance of a complete concerto with either piano or orchestra accompaniment, with composer name, duration of each movement and edition (if applicable) of the work clearly labelled via the following link: PYP Audition 2023

Shortlisted applicants will be notified by email in January 2023 to participate in live auditions scheduled to take place in February 2023. They should be prepared to play the concerto submitted in full and should arrange for their own piano accompanist to play the orchestral part.

Shortlisted applicants may be invited to participate in more than one round of live audition, to take place in March 2023. They will either play the same concerto again or a different concerto, after discussion with the Organising Committee.

Successful candidates will be notified by email in April 2023.

Decision of the adjudicators will be final and based purely on technical and musical ability demonstrated in the applicants' performance.

Candidate may be requested to change repertoire due to prevailing Safe Management Measures and programming considerations.
