SSO PRESIDENT’S YOUNG PERFORMERS OPEN FOR AUDITIONS
The Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO) will be conducting open auditions for its “President’s Young Performers” concert.
The annual concert shines a spotlight on young talented musicians in Singapore — giving them the rare chance to perform with the SSO. Successful candidates will perform as soloist in a concerto with the SSO at the Victoria Concert Hall in 2019 (date to be announced).
Auditions will be held for shortlisted Singaporean conductors and instrumentalists performing on Western classical instruments such as strings, woodwind, brass and percussion.
Past performers have included pianists Abigail Sin and Azariah Tan, violinist Loh Jun Hong, mezzo-soprano Jade Tan, and oboist Bernice Lee.
The concert was first launched by President Ong Teng Cheong in 1995 as the “President’s Charity Concert by Young Talents”.
Applicants should be Singapore citizens. Instrumentalist applicants should be no more than 25 years of age, and conductor applicants, no more than 35 years of age, as of 1 July 2019.
Applicants are invited to send in their application by 31 December 2018, with the following items:
- Biography including their date of birth, musical background and contact information
- For instrumentalists, a high-quality web video or a non-returnable DVD or thumb drive featuring their recent performance of a concerto. Conductors should include a rehearsal or a concert of at least two contrasted pieces, including beginning and end of works.
