Stephen Hough • Egyptian Piano Concerto

STEPHEN HOUGH • EGYPTIAN PIANO CONCERTO
We welcome the return of a familiar friend of the SSO: the distinguished British pianist Stephen Hough in Saint-Saëns’s picturesque Egyptian Piano Concerto. This all-French programme directed by SSO Principal Guest Conductor Andrew Litton also features a rare opportunity to hear one of the finest examples of symphonic tradition from the hands of the French - the shimmering majesty of César Franck’s only Symphony.
One of the most distinctive artists of his generation, Stephen Hough combines a distinguished career as a pianist with those of composer and writer. Named by The Economist as one of Twenty Living Polymaths, Hough was awarded a MacArthur Fellowship, in 2001, and was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2014.
His latest novel, Rough Ideas: Reflections on Music and More, was published by Faber & Faber in 2019, and will be available for sale at the concert. He will also be holding an autograph session during intermission.
