"THE BEST DAY" WITH LOCO MOTIVE TRIO
What happens when three fast and very musical friends realise they have a mutual interest in music beyond traditional classical fare? They take the Loco Motive track!
“The Best Day” on Sunday, March 3 is a sunny programme of bluegrass, country, folk and gypsy jazz probably best illustrated with the word “fiddle” – a violin in every sense of the word, but not quite the usual music you would think. Instead, think fast, folksy jigs and country nostalgia, improvisation and spontaneity – played by the string trio of violin, cello and doublebass: the Loco Motive Trio.
One of the three faces in the Trio will be familiar to Singaporeans: the award-winning violinist Kam Ning, who has performed all over the world, including at the Singapore Symphony Orchestra’s recent National Day Concert 2018. Kam Ning was inspired to found The Loco Motive Trio in part due to her fascination with the legendary violinist Stéphane Grappelli and America’s equally legendary fiddler Mark O’Connor, two virtuosi of improvisation, whose music will feature prominently in this programme. “Bluegrass is hard to resist,” Kam Ning says, “It is full of joy, purity, it is literally a ‘what's-not-to-love’!”
Her partners are: Sébastien Walnier, principal cellist at Orchestre de la Monnaie Orchestra in Brussels and fellow Belgian double bassist Lisa de Boos, two versatile artistes who are both at home in a wide range of styles from classical and contemporary, to jazz and tango.

Shuffle into the evening with the trio’s eclectic mix of pieces kicking off with compositions by Grammy Award-winning violinist/fiddler Mark O’Connor, swinging right past Stéphane Grappelli’s seductive Les Valseuses, amongst other merry tunes.
