Together with Principal Guest Conductor Andrew Litton, acclaimed British violinist Chloë Hanslip returns to Singapore for four evenings of musical mastery, including a joint fundraising concert with the Foundation of Rotary Clubs Singapore (FRCS) to end off the February line-up; in an SSOLOUNGE-exclusive release in March, the T’ang Quartet performs string masterpieces.

Singapore, 7 January 2022 — As we transition into Spring, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO) enlivens the soul with British violin virtuoso Chloë Hanslip and Principal Guest Conductor Andrew Litton for a magnificent performance of the classics. Together with SSO, the pair will bring to life music by the likes of Bernstein and Shostakovich for SSO-FRCS Joint Fundraising Concert: Serenades with Andrew Litton and Chloë Hanslipon 25 and 26 February, and Andrew Litton and Chloë Hanslip on 4 and 5 March.

On 10 March, Singapore’s most renowned string quartet, T’ang Quartet joins the line-up with an SSOLOUNGE-exclusive release filmed in April 2021 — a concert of elegant string masterpieces by Strauss, Shostakovich and Brahms.

February

In its inaugural collaboration with another Institute of Public Character, the SSO presents SSO-FRCS Joint Fundraising Concert: Serenades with Andrew Litton and Chloë Hanslip on 25 and 26 February, with the critically acclaimed Chloë Hanslip starring as guest violinist. Audiences will revel in an evening of serenades from the UK, USA, and Austria, featuring the famous Eine kleine Nachtmusik by Mozart. Together with SSO Principal Guest Conductor Andrew Litton, Hanslip will muse over Bernstein’s Serenade, after Plato’s Symposium which was inspired by the seven speeches in praise of Eros, the god of love and desire.

Fitting for the themes of love and appreciation, the first concert on 25 February will be a joint fundraiser for both charities aiming to raise $120,000. Proceeds will be allocated to SSO and FRCS equally.

“The joint fundraiser marks the common goal and dedication of SSO and FRCS to create a better world. Rotarians around the world commemorate World Understanding and Peace Day each February to promote peace and tolerance globally. The common language of symphonic music serves as a platform to create understanding across the cultures,” said Mr Chng Hak-Peng, Chief Executive Officer, Singapore Symphony Group.

Mr Chew Ghim Bok, Chairman of Foundation of Rotary Clubs Singapore said, “FRCS is excited to embark on this fundraising initiative with the SSO in the upcoming SSO-FRCS Joint Fundraising Concert: Serenades with Andrew Litton and Chloë Hanslip. All proceeds will go on to benefit FRCS’ Eldercare & Caregivers Centre in the community, as well as the SSO. The partnership offers an excellent opportunity for FRCS to show support for the arts.”

March

Along with the percussionists and strings of the SSO, acclaimed violinist Chloë Hanslip will once again grace the stage with Principal Guest Conductor Andrew Litton to perform an all-Russian programme, Andrew Litton and Chloë Hanslip on 4 and 5 March. The evenings will present orchestral re-imaginings of two chamber works: Shostakovich’ s dark and desolate Sonata, Op. 134, written for violin legend David Oistrakh’s 60th birthday, and Tchaikovsky’s adrenaline-inducing Souvenirs de Florence.

On 10 March, SSOLOUNGE will release an exclusive concert — T’ang Quartet & SSO (Online). Filmed earlier in April 2021, the online exclusive showcases the T’ang Quartet, Singapore’s premier string quartet, alongside musicians of the SSO in a concert of string masterpieces featuring Richard Strauss’ Capriccio, the dark wanderings of Shostakovich’s Prelude and Scherzo, and Brahm’s romantic String Sextet No. 1.
