Synopsis
The Singapore National Youth Orchestra (SNYO), led by Music Director Joshua Tan and joined by renowned violinist Ning Feng, brings its China tour to a dynamic close in Hong Kong. The finale concert features an expanded programme, and a special collaboration with the Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra (HKYSO).
The concert opens with Echoes from the Heartland, an SNYO commission by Singaporean composer Tony Makarome. Renowned violinist Ning Feng takes the centre stage in Shostakovich's Violin Concerto No. 2, a work of haunting lyricism and emotional complexity.
Under the baton of conductor Joseph Kam, HKYSO presents Liszt's symphonic poem Les Préludes, sweeping listeners into a journey of fate and triumph. The vibrant optimism of Dvořák's Symphony No. 6 ushers in pastoral charm and Slavic warmth.
Closing the concert is a side-by-side performance by the musicians of SNYO and HKYSO of Stokowski's electrifying arrangement of Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor.
