Lan Shui is renowned for his abilities as an orchestral builder and for his passion in commissioning, premiering and recording new works by leading Asian composers. Shui has “turned a good regional orchestra into a world-class ensemble that plays its heart out at every concert” (American Record Guide). He is the recipient of several international awards, as well as Singapore's Cultural Medallion – our highest accolade in the arts. In 2019, he was awarded the Bintang Bakti Masyarakat (Public Service Star, or BBM) by the Singapore government.

Second Prize winner of the 2008 Dimitri Mitropoulos International Competition, Singaporean conductor Joshua Tan’s rise to prominence on the international scene has been marked by recent successful debuts in Carnegie Hall, Philharmonie Berlin, Mariinsky Hall, Bunkamura, Shanghai, Beijing and Taiwan.

SSO's Principal Guest Conductor from the 2017/18 season, American conductor Andrew Litton began his conducting career with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and has since conducted all over the world in numerous engagements.

Maestro Choo Hoey became our founding Music Director in 1979. His pioneering work building the orchestra from its modest beginnings has earned him the Cultural Medallion (1979) and the Public Service Star (1982).

Choral Director of the Singapore Symphony Chorus, Eudenice Palaruan wears many hats as chorister, composer, arranger and music pedagogue.
