Established in 1979, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra continues its 40th anniversary celebrations in March, with a bumper crop of six free concerts featuring familiar favourites and a travelling brass ensemble.

Catch the SSO at the Gardens by the Bay on 9 March in a colourful programme of familiar classics inspired by fairy tales and scenes of serenity and drama – including music from Grieg’s Peer Gynt, Ravel’s Mother Goose, Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio Espagnol, and more by Dvořák, Handel and Liszt.

Then follow an SSO brass ensemble as they tour to various locations in Singapore as part of NAC “Arts in Your Neighbourhood” series.

These free concerts are part of SSO’s 40th Anniversary celebrations and all are welcome.

We promise a delightful mix of familiar tunes from Star Wars to Mozart to Dick Lee’s Home!

KAM NING BRINGS IT HOME, BLUEGRASS-STYLE

Speaking of home, Singapore violinist Kam Ning, recently seen with the SSO in our National Day concert in August last year, is heading home as one third of the Loco Motive Trio – with pals Sebastien Walnier (cello) and Lisa De Boos (double bass).

The trio brings all things to do with fiddling – through music adventures that feature funk, rock and jazz expressions.

Come ready to hear compositions by Grammy Award-winning fiddler Mark O’Connor and Stéphane Grappelli’s seductive Les Valseuses, amongst other merry tunes in a programme of pure musical sunshine.

The programme is part of the VCHExcite! series. We invite everyone to let their hair down and enjoy music that’s light-hearted, unadulterated fun – and discover classical music anew.
