The Singapore International Piano Festival (SIPF) thrilled over 1,000 audience members with a vibrant programme of performances and masterclasses by piano powerhouses from around the world.

Malaysian pianist Tengku Irfan opened the 29th edition of the SIPF.

A highlight of the international music calendar from 3 to 11 June, the festival’s 29th edition was kicked off by Malaysian pianist Tengku Irfan, the youngest performer in the line-up. The 25-year-old delivered a rousing recital which featured Beethoven’s Sonata No. 22 in F Major (Op.54), Schumann’s Fantasie in C (Op.17), along with other cherished classics.

The pianist also showcased a piece by his wife, Singaporean composer Koh Cheng Jin, with the Asian premiere of Tota pulchara es. Hailed by The Straits Times as a stroke of genius, Tengku’s performance was followed by a masterclass, where attendees had a chance to gain insights into the pianist's musicality more intimately.

American pianist Jonathan Biss
French pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard

American pianist Jonathan Biss and French pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard also took the stage in their respective piano recitals. The former displayed his mastery in a repertoire of Beethoven, Schumann and more, while the latter wrapped up the festival with six of Hungarian-Austrian composer György Ligeti’s Études. Captivated by the brilliance of both pianists, The Straits Times described their imagination and musicianship as truly memorable.

We would like to express our gratitude to Conrad Centennial Singapore for their support towards the SIPF 2023 as the event’s official hotel, along with heartfelt thanks to all who attended the festival.

See you at the next edition!
