Come “Home” with the SSO this August
Celebrate our nation’s 57th birthday with the SSO at the Temasek Foundation SSO National Day Concert 2022 at the Esplanade and enjoy a new music video of Singapore’s favourite tune
Singapore, 1 August 2022 — The Singapore Symphony Orchestra is set to delight audiences in the month of August with the Temasek Foundation SSO National Day Concert 2022, together with the release of a special music video of popular National Day song Home.
To commemorate Singapore’s 57th birthday, the SSO and members of the Singapore National Youth Orchestra (SNYO) put together their rendition of Home by Dick Lee, arranged by Singaporean composer Kelly Tang. Directed by Li Lin Wee, the video spotlights the mentorship between young and professional musicians, and tells of the camaraderie and familial connection of classical music beyond the concert hall. Filmed at various locations familiar to Singaporeans, the video also marks the first time friends and family of the SSO joined in the production. The SSO National Day music video will be released on the SSO Facebook page on 1 August, 8pm.
Come 13 August, celebrate Singapore’s 57th birthday with the SSO led by conductor Darrell Ang, together with the Singapore Symphony Choruses, members of the Singapore National Youth Orchestra and special guests Lorong Boys and Niranjan Pandian, at the Temasek Foundation SSO National Day Concert 2022. Catch the concert live at the Esplanade or the concurrent livestream online on SSOLOUNGE and the SSO’s YouTube page. This programme will feature six new commissions by local composers, including SG50’s The Gift of Song winner, Lee Chin Sin. The all-inclusive concert will showcase traditional Asian instruments like the bansuri, dizi, erhu and angklung, and feature a sign-language interpreter for the audience.
The month of August culminates with the President’s Young Performers Concert on 26 and 27 August, featuring three young musicians: Pualina Lim, pianist-composer and recipient of the NUSS Medal for Outstanding Achievement Award, Quek Jun Rui, former Singapore National Youth Orchestra Principal Oboe, and award-winning soprano Evangeline Ng.

The SSO is part of the Singapore Symphony Group, which also manages the Singapore Symphony Choruses, and the Singapore National Youth Orchestra. The mission of the Group is to create memorable shared experiences with music. Through the SSO and its affiliated performing groups, we spread the love for music, nurture talent and enrich our diverse communities.
The Singapore Symphony Orchestra was nominated and clinched third place in the prestigious Gramophone Orchestra of the Year Award 2021. In 2022, BBC Music Magazine named the SSO as one of the 21 best orchestras in the world.
Launched in September 2021, the SSO’s streaming platform SSOLOUNGE allows audiences to watch live and pre-recorded masterworks of great composers, as well as premieres of classical performances from the comfort of their own screens. From reliving the best of Mozart’s concertos to revelling in the passages of lyrical grace from Romantic works, SSO fans and concertgoers can enjoy access to a repository of digital premieres and archived concerts. SSOLOUNGE comes with two subscription options: the 12M Premium All-Access Pass offers exclusive access to archived concerts, as well as 3-month unlimited access for new releases, and the Single Access Pass which allows the user to view one concert for 3 months.

ABOUT THE SINGAPORE NATIONAL YOUTH ORCHESTRA
Formally established in 1980, the Singapore National Youth Orchestra (SNYO) has welcomed generations of youths to the life-changing experience of playing orchestra music, performing locally as well as representing Singapore at prestigious concert halls and music festivals overseas. Over the years, the SNYO has performed in concert venues and music festivals across Australia, Austria, Germany, Italy, Japan, Malaysia and the United Kingdom. Today, the orchestra consists of 180 youths aged 10 to 21, from more than 60 schools across Singapore. The SNYO family consists of a main orchestra and a junior orchestra, where they are guided by professional musicians in rehearsals, sectionals and masterclasses. Their programme is accessible to talented youth musicians with selected individual lesson subsidy and travel grants for tours as well as participation in exchange programmes. ABOUT THE SINGAPORE SYMPHONY CHORUSES
The Singapore Symphony Choruses is a premier choral body comprising the Singapore Symphony Chorus, Singapore Symphony Youth Choir and Singapore Symphony Children’s Choir.
Since 1980, the Choruses have seen membership from diverse ages, backgrounds and nationalities. Regularly sharing the stage with the SSO, the Choruses record and tour with the orchestra, as well as give their own performances in Singapore and abroad. Through holistic training that nurtures artistic growth and personal development, the Choruses aim to articulate an ecosystem of choral excellence. Repertoire for the respective choruses straddle musical worlds and styles, ranging from orchestral masterpieces to a cappella favourites, and spanning the Renaissance to contemporary 21-st century music. Throughout the pandemic, the Choruses challenged the boundaries of remote collaboration in music making, releasing several productions including a music video "We Will Get There", as well as a one-of-its-kind joint choral performance "Longing", entirely enabled by technology.
