Come “Home” with the SSO this August

Celebrate our nation’s 57th birthday with the SSO at the Temasek Foundation SSO National Day Concert 2022 at the Esplanade and enjoy a new music video of Singapore’s favourite tune
Singapore, 1 August 2022 — The Singapore Symphony Orchestra is set to delight audiences in the month of August with the Temasek Foundation SSO National Day Concert 2022, together with the release of a special music video of popular National Day song Home.
To commemorate Singapore’s 57th birthday, the SSO and members of the Singapore National Youth Orchestra (SNYO) put together their rendition of Home by Dick Lee, arranged by Singaporean composer Kelly Tang. Directed by Li Lin Wee, the video spotlights the mentorship between young and professional musicians, and tells of the camaraderie and familial connection of classical music beyond the concert hall. Filmed at various locations familiar to Singaporeans, the video also marks the first time friends and family of the SSO joined in the production. The SSO National Day music video will be released on the SSO Facebook page on 1 August, 8pm.
Come 13 August, celebrate Singapore’s 57th birthday with the SSO led by conductor Darrell Ang, together with the Singapore Symphony Choruses, members of the Singapore National Youth Orchestra and special guests Lorong Boys and Niranjan Pandian, at the Temasek Foundation SSO National Day Concert 2022. Catch the concert live at the Esplanade or the concurrent livestream online on SSOLOUNGE and the SSO’s YouTube page. This programme will feature six new commissions by local composers, including SG50’s The Gift of Song winner, Lee Chin Sin. The all-inclusive concert will showcase traditional Asian instruments like the bansuri, dizi, erhu and angklung, and feature a sign-language interpreter for the audience.
The month of August culminates with the President’s Young Performers Concert on 26 and 27 August, featuring three young musicians: Pualina Lim, pianist-composer and recipient of the NUSS Medal for Outstanding Achievement Award, Quek Jun Rui, former Singapore National Youth Orchestra Principal Oboe, and award-winning soprano Evangeline Ng.
