Introducing Our Artist-in-residence: Rachel Barton Pine
INTRODUCING OUR ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE: RACHEL BARTON PINE
This October and November, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra is joined by violinist Rachel Barton Pine for three concerts spanning music by Elgar, Bruch… and Metallica!
In two concerts at the Esplanade Concert Hall, Rachel will be treating audiences to a performance of Bruch’s Scottish Fantasy (26 Oct) and Elgar’s Violin Concerto (1 Nov).
Sandwiched in between the two concerts - conducted by Michał Nesterowicz and SSO's Principal Guest Conductor Andrew Litton - is a chamber music programme with a difference.
Rachel is a life-long metal fan – she used to be in a doom metal band – and on 27 October at the Victoria Concert Hall she’ll lead musicians from the SSO in performances of songs by Van Halen, Metallica and Rush, alongside a selection of classical chamber works.
Rachel Barton Pine performs with the world's leading orchestras, including the Chicago and Vienna Symphonies, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic, and Camerata Salzburg. She has worked with such renowned conductors as Zubin Mehta, Erich Leinsdorf, Neeme Järvi, and Marin Alsop.
Her collaborators include leading artists such as Daniel Barenboim, Christoph Eschenbach, William Warfield, and Christopher O’Riley. She has recorded 39 acclaimed albums, including Elgar & Bruch Violin Concertos with the BBC Symphony Orchestra conducted by Andrew Litton, and Mozart: Complete Violin Concertos with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, conducted by Sir Neville Marriner.
