SSO embarks on seven-city China tour this October
Presented in partnership with Temasek Foundation, the orchestra will be led by Quantedge Music Director Hannu Lintu and joined by soloists Chloe Chua and He Ziyu.
Singapore, 25 August 2026 - This October, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO) returns to China for the first time in 15 years. The seven-city tour also marks Music Director Hannu Lintu's inaugural international tour with the orchestra. Audiences in Singapore will have the opportunity to experience the tour programme at two Pre-Tour Concerts.
Pre-Tour Concerts
The SSO will present two Pre-Tour Concerts at the National University of Singapore’s University Cultural Centre, offering audiences a preview of the programmes to be performed abroad. Chloe Chua & Hannu Lintu – Jewel and Titan (8 October) features Singapore’s young violin star Chloe Chua performing Mendelssohn’s beloved Violin Concerto. Music Director Hannu Lintu also leads the orchestra in Singaporean composer Wang Chenwei’s The Sisters’ Islands and Mahler’s First Symphony.
Following that, Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante and Mahler’s Titan (9 October) reunites Chloe Chua with fellow Menuhin Competition alumnus He Ziyu in a performance of Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante for violin and viola. The concert then concludes with Mahler’s First Symphony under the baton of Hannu Lintu.
Limited tickets for these two concerts are still available, and eligible for redemption under the SG Culture Pass.
SSO China Tour 2026
Following the Pre-Tour Concerts in Singapore, the SSO will travel across China from 13 to 25 October 2026. The SSO China Tour 2026 is presented in partnership with Temasek Foundation to showcase Singapore’s artistic excellence, strengthen its international presence, and deepen cultural exchange with audiences and institutional partners overseas.
The tour opens at the Jaguar Shanghai Symphony Hall (13 October), as part of an ongoing partnership between the Singapore and Shanghai Symphonies to foster cultural understanding and artistic collaboration. It follows Shanghai Symphony’s Singapore debut on 23 March 2026.
After which, the tour continues on to Wuhan Qintai Concert Hall (15 October), National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing (18 October), Changsha Concert Hall (20 October), Xinghai Concert Hall in Guangzhou (21 October), Shenzhen Concert Hall (23 October) and concludes at Xiamen Banlam Grand Theatre (25 October).
The SSO will perform both programmes over the course of the tour. The first programme featuring Chloe Chua in Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto will be presented in Shanghai, Changsha, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Xiamen. The second programme with He Ziyu will be performed in Wuhan and Beijing.

Singapore’s young star violinist Chloe Chua performs Mendelssohn’s lyrical Violin Concerto, “The most inward, the heart’s jewel” among the great German violin concertos. Led by our Music Director Hannu Lintu, this attractive programme that the SSO will bring on its China Tour also presents Singaporean composer Wang Chenwei’s picturesque tone poem, The Sisters’ Islands, now an established work in Singapore’s symphonic repertoire. Mahler’s First Symphony, a titan among symphonies, concludes the concert.

Founded in 1979, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO) is Singapore’s flagship orchestra, touching lives through classical music and providing the heartbeat of the cultural scene.
