By nurturing their creativity and lifelong appreciation for music, we secure the future of classical music and ensure that it continues to form a crucial and meaningful part of Singapore’s cultural landscape.
Nurturing Young Musicians
Our youth ensembles nurture the next generation of music-makers and music lovers by providing a supportive environment to develop their artistic potential. Through the Singapore National Youth Orchestra, Singapore Symphony Youth Choir and Singapore Symphony Children’s Choir, young musicians receive mentorship from industry professionals, perform on national and international stages, and participate in artistic collaborations with fellow practitioners and arts organisations in ways that shape their musical and personal growth.
Besides our youth ensembles, our yearly President’s Young Performers Concert provides rising Singaporean musicians the opportunity to perform a concerto alongside the SSO, while the biennial National Piano & Violin Competition recognises young classical music talents. Together, these platforms showcase the exciting artistic growth in our homegrown musicians.
Building Future Audiences
For younger audiences, our Concerts for Children and Babies’ Proms series bring music to life through colourful storytelling and interactivity, offering a lively introduction to the orchestra and marking the start of a fond appreciation for music. Complemented by fringe activities such as the Instrument Petting Zoo where young ones can try musical instruments, our family-friendly concerts are a mainstay in the orchestra’s calendar.
Our school programmes are designed to complement the national music education syllabus and facilitate access to quality resources. Apart from in-school educational programmes and music excursions for students, we engage close to 6,000 lower-secondary students annually through the Performing Arts-Based Learning (PABL) programme developed in partnership with the Ministry of Education and National Arts Council.
Your support allows us to continue our longstanding programmes that allow youths to explore music at a foundational level, nurture budding musicians in their formative years, and set the stage for a lifelong engagement with the arts. Beyond that, it secures a vibrant future for the Singapore Symphony, where music remains an integral part of our lives for many generations to come.
